As the saying goes, "it's not stupid if it works." There should be a small addendum to this adage, maybe something like "it's not stupid if it works and also it looks like it could start a fire at any second." These questionable fixes and modifications all required ingenuity, but some more than others might require a fire extinguisher pretty soon too.
